Sphynx Care
1. Sphynx cats are not low maintenance
-they should be bathed weekly because these cats get
"greasy" they develop a brown film and leave dirty places
on your furniture etc. if you don't bathe them regularly.
I use Virbac Epi-Soothe shampoo for my cats . I bathe in
the kitchen sink and use a soft washcloth to get face and
under belly and hind legs clean. We do an all over sudsing
and then a rinse.
2. Ears should also be cleaned out weekly.
I use Virbac Epi-Otic on a cotton ball to wipe the inside
of the ears and a q-tip soaked in the solution for the
folds of the ear. If you don't keep the ears clean they
may develop infections.
3. Clean corner of the eyes daily, a soft
wash clothe works well.
4. During bath time pay attention to the
folds between the nail bed. The toe nails develop a ridge
of grease that has to be removed weekly. I leave this part
for last as soaking in the bath water makes grease come
off a little easier. Right after the bath I also trim toe
nails. I use a very bright light. Look for the pink nail
bed and trim only the white nail just like you would your
own fingernails without cutting the quick.
Fresh food and water are free choice at my
house. I feed Royal Canin they have different stages of
food depending on the age of the cat, I also feed a raw
diet twice daily that I make up once every two weeks and
keep in the freezer. They love their raw food and I feel
that it puts and extra "bloom" on them. I'll be more than
happy to share the recipe with you.
I scoop my litter boxes every day,
sometimes twice daily. I completely change litter out
every 4-5 days. Cats like their potty boxes clean. I use
covered cat boxes and remove swinging doors. I provide one
box for every cat. I use Tidy cat scoopable in the 35lb. bucket
from Kmart or Wal-mart
Toys are a must and teasers make Sphynx go crazy! They
love cat trees and cardboard scratchers, but the best
entertainment is a bug or fly in the house! Sphynx are
very social creatures and it is important to spend lots of
time with your friend. It's inevitable that if you have
one Sphynx, it won't be long before there's two!
